The town of Viganella, Italy used to spend 83 days a year under a shadow from the Swiss Alps, until they built a giant mirror to reflect onto the Town Square
The town of Viganella in Italy was directly under a shadow 83 days out of the year. This shadow cast down from the Swiss Alps covering the entire town. To overcome this, in November of 2006 the city built a giant , adjustable , computer controlled mirror. Consisting of 14 sheets of steel, together measuring 26 feet wide and 16 feet tall. This ensures that the town square was always lit up, to cast some light into the shadow. At a cost of 540 euro per resident, the project totaled 100,000 euro.
The uniqueness of this town and its mirror, made it a feature in an Italian/Canadian film aptly named, "The Mirror"
